The Paragon
For the past year I have been involved in the sport of R/C Soaring. My first two gliders were ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) and have since both crashed. I spend most weekends with my club. My interest in gliders started along time ago and in fact, I did start to build a glider with my dad, but it was never finished. I had always planned to learn to fly with a glider and then move over to gas powered R/C planes, but the thrill of trying to find thermals to stay aloft is too much fun. Besides, I have spent many years with gas R/C cars and boats and I find them to be very messy. Caution: the nitro gas is very caustic and will eat through most household paints and finishes.
This glider is a 3 meter 30+ year old design called the Paragon. Ed Slobod is the designer and still flies today. I spent about three months constructing this glider and have since repaired one wing tip. About one month ago I had a mid air mishap which resulted in the loss of the right wing tip. Fortunatley the paragon was able to fly a controlled spiral to the ground. The glider was flying the following weekend.
